5 Tips For a Healthy Lifestyle

I hesitate to write this post because when you're tiny like me and start to workout and eat better all you hear is "you're so small, you don't need to worry about that." However this is a topic that has been very important to me for the last year+ and I really wanted to share it with you guys on my blog. So I'm going to share a little bit of my background and some tips that helped me get on track to a better lifestyle. I'm no expert and I know everyone is different but I truly believe these tips can help most people, especially people my age!

So, background

I've never been super heavy or overweight and I've never felt that way either. When I decided to get on a healthier track I did it because I wanted to feel better and that's what I stuck with and still stick with. I started in July and literally didn't step on a scale until the following January, it was never about a number to me. I started feeling better in my clothes and started having people comment on how I was looking and that's how I knew it was working. I did it all with simple changes and those changes are what I want to share with you!

The Tips

1. Eat Less
I know, it sounds vague but I'll explain. I never changed what I was eating completely. I didn't go vegan or cut out dairy, nothing like that. I kept eating normal everyday things I just cut the portion in half. It is hard at first but overtime you won't even notice because your body doesn't need the full portion most of the time. I would substitute a few things and try to cook healthier meals at home but whenever I was out I would get my normal meals at restaurants but only eat half of them. Oh, I also stopped eating fries for the most part, that was hard!

2. Cut Out Sugar
This is one thing that I did cut from my diet, not completely but I made sure to only eat things low in sugar. One major thing I cut was soda and I truly think this is one of the main things that helped me slim down. A lot of people aren't going to agree with this but I do drink diet soda (if you think regular soda is better you're wrong, they are both bad) and I use Splenda (I try to use Truvia because it is a bit healthier but sometimes it is not always available to me!) to sweeten my coffee/tea. It is crazy what cutting sugar out will do for you!

3. Start Doing HIIT Workouts
These workouts will help you tone and lose weight. HIIT stands for high intensity interval training, it sounds scary but it's not. Most workouts are 30 seconds on 30 seconds off and these workouts really work! They take 20-30 minutes and the best part is with these workouts you continue burning calories even after you workout. My favorite ones are by a girl named Katie. She has a YouTube channel called Love, Sweat, Fitness.

4. Allow yourself to have "normal things"
Have cake and ice cream, whatever you crave, just don't over due it. Sweets are my weakness but I specifically remember allowing myself to have them when I was very strict with my diet and guess what, I still saw results! Do not deprive yourself of your favorite things because if you do you will eventually break. Everything is ok in moderation. Looking back I never felt like I was missing something, because I let myself have things, just smaller portions. Just remember you won't lose weight in one day and you won't gain it back in one day.

5. Don't Let Your Self Get Hungry
I make my worse decisions when I'm hungry and so do most people. It is easier to choose a healthy option when you are not starving. Eat healthy snacks throughout the day!

This can be hard at first, but once you start seeing results I promise it gets easier! The results you see will be your biggest motivator!

A Little Extra

Since I mentioned that I substitute a few things I wanted to share a few things with you guys!

Chips and guac is my favorite snack but now I use carrots as chips. I also use them for other dips too!

I love pasta and stuffed shells are my favorite to make but for my shell I use zucchini

If we have taco night I make a bowl instead of a taco
